The Cauldron’s first Feminist Lab in the Caring Lodge will be a presentation from feminist activist Janey Starling, followed by a discussion. Janey is a feminist abolitionist activist, writer and co-director of UK gender justice organisation Level Up @levelup_uk . She recently gave a TEDx talk with her co-director Seyi Falodun-Liburd on how collective care is critical to social justice work. At this event she will present some of the creative campaigns and actions she has been part of, and discuss how these forms of resistance, which tackle issues of trauma and violence, are all underpinned by organising that embodies a deep and transformative politics of care.

Janey’s work with Level Up includes spearheading the UK’s first media guidelines on how to responsibly report on domestic homicide, flying a plane over a football match to protest rape culture in football and mobilising feminists to stand in solidarity with the trans community and Muslim women at crucial political moments. She is currently driving the UK’s campaign to end imprisonment of pregnant women, which has resulted in a new sentencing framework for British courts.

Janey is also a founding member of Sisters Uncut who formed ten years ago to protest gender-based and state violence. The group’s actions include storming the red carpet at a film premiere, occupying a prison visitor’s centre, challenging police violence against women and most recently feminist organising around Palestinian Liberation.

The presentation will be held in English.
